About the Faculty
Major Selection
ICU has only one undergraduate school, the College of Liberal Arts, which has 31 majors. Students can choose one or two of these majors as follows:
Single Major | One major |
Double Major | Two majors |
Major, minor | Major and minor |
Your graduation requirements will vary depending on your choice of major.
ELA, JLP
ICU offers language education as a university-wide common subject. Students whose native language is Japanese are required to take the "English for Liberal Arts Program (ELA)" to improve their English skills and to acquire the thinking skills necessary to effectively study ICU classes.
On the other hand, students enrolling in September, students enrolling in April whose English is their forte, and exchange students are required to take the Japanese Language Program (JLP) . The JLP is a program that equips students with the Japanese language proficiency and academic skills necessary both inside and outside the university.
University Life

University life at ICU respects the individuality and diversity of its students and is designed to accommodate each student's identity.
Campus
The biggest feature of the campus is that it is rich in nature. On campus, there is a small mountain (Bakayama) where students can relax, a large gymnasium, a gym that ICU students can use for free, student dormitories, a library, a museum, and more.
In addition, the facilities are designed to accommodate a diverse range of students. For example, the restrooms in the main building are all-gender restrooms that can be used by both men and women!
Entrance and Graduation Ceremonies
ICU, with students from all over the world, has two entrance ceremonies, one in April and one in September, and two graduation ceremonies, one in March and one in June.
Student Dormitory
There are nine dormitories on the ICU campus: one men's dormitory, two women's dormitories, and six co-ed dormitories. Each dormitory has its own characteristics, so you can find one that suits you. As you can see, there are many different dormitories, but there are also many events throughout the year where students can interact with each other in the dormitories.
Event
In addition to the dormitory festivals mentioned earlier, ICU also has other events for dorm residents.
Spring and fall entrance ceremonies: April and September
Spring and summer graduation ceremonies: March and July
Initiation (advertising for each dormitory): May, October
ICU Festival (University Festival): October
Christian Week: May
Freshman Retreat: October
Christmas Events: December and more!
After Graduation
After graduating from ICU, students can either find employment or continue on to graduate school, a five-year ICU bachelor's or master's program, or a master's degree program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
Our graduates find employment in a wide range of industries, mainly at global companies.
What makes ICU so appealing?
Here are some of the attractions of ICU:
You can meet people with all kinds of backgrounds and personalities!
The campus is huge and there is lots of nature!
Take your time and find a field that interests you!
