What is the SAT?

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a common university entrance examination test in the United States. It is required in most cases when applying to American universities, and many Japanese universities have recently introduced it as an evaluation criterion for their AO entrance examinations. The test is divided into two parts, English (EBRW) and Mathematics (Math), and can be taken five times a year in Japan (March, May, August, October, and December). It is possible to take the test more than once.

At EGCIS, we thoroughly analyze the questions that have been asked over the past several years to prepare our students for the examinations so that they can obtain the highest possible scores. We will prepare students for common question types and cover all other question types without omission. The ultimate goal is to minimize the number of types of questions that the student has never seen before.

Create a study schedule that suits the student

Time management is an important part of studying for the SAT. Students must prepare for the SAT in addition to their regular schoolwork and club activities. At EGCIS, we will help you to set up a schedule that will support you on the road to the college entrance exam. We will also provide a variety of homework and worksheets for students to best prepare them for the test.

Practice using mocks

The more you practice the SAT, the higher your score tends to be. EGCIS has more than 30 different practice tests (Mock Exams) that are administered on a regular basis. By taking as many mock exams as possible, students can prepare for the real test as closely as possible. In the initial stage, we determine the score that the student is aiming for and provide thorough guidance toward that goal. Some students have raised their scores by more than 300 points.

At EGCIS, students will be guided by teachers who have obtained high scores of 1500 or more on the SAT. The advantage of this is that the students will hear many techniques and study methods that will lead to higher scores based on the most recent exam questions. SSAT

What is SSAT?

The Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) is an aptitude test for Grades 3-11 and is the test that must be submitted for admission to private secondary schools in the United States. The test consists of two mathematics sections (Quantitative) and a reading, verbal reasoning, and writing
section. It is important to take the SSAT and achieve a high score if you wish to transfer or enroll in a top post-secondary institution.

TOEFL

What is TOEFL?

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an English language test for those seeking admission to English-speaking countries and English-speaking universities. It is based on academic English and has four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. It is possible to take the test multiple times a year, which has the advantage of making it easier to raise scores in a short period of time.

With the increasing ratio of applicants to universities around the world, it is very important to take measures from the early stages of the application process. At EGCIS, we offer AO entrance exam consulting from a team of teachers that have successfully gone through that same path. For many high school students and their parents, the university entrance exam is a very pressured time. Our highly qualified teachers will help you with any concerns or worries you may have about the entrance examinations.

College counselling

When you become a high school student, there are times when you worry about which university you should go to. EGCIS teachers will support such students. Based on the SAT, GPA, IB Predicted, A-Levels, TOEFL scores, etc., EGCIS's college counselor will support you so that you can apply for the university that best suits you. In addition, it is essential to prepare for college entrance examinations at an early stage. We recommend consulting at the stage of deciding classes such as AP and IB.

University application process support
(COLLEGE APPLICATIONS)

In the AO entrance examination, it is important to complete the university application procedures properly. In addition to essays, you must also prepare documents such as school transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a history of extracurricular activities. We will guide busy students and prepare them well in advance so that they can take university entrance exams with plenty of time to spare. IB

What is an IB?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an educational program that is being implemented worldwide. In recent years, it has been strongly recommended by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan, and as of December 31, 2021, there were 175 accredited schools in Japan alone. This educational program, which aims to nurture students who can play an active role in society amid globalization, provides students with a world-class university entrance qualification (IB Diploma) and offers a wide range of options for students.

Balancing normal grades and the IB program

The IB program has a lot of content and is very challenging, so it is very important to balance it with your regular school grades (GPA, etc.). In recent years, there have been many cases in which students have been unable to improve their school grades due to the effects of taking the IB. At EGCIS, we support students from the initial stage of the IB program to the completion of university entrance examinations to ensure that they receive high marks for both their regular grades and IB scores.

APs

What is AP?

AP (Advanced Placement) is a special course for high school students run by the American College Board. It is more difficult than general high school classes, and it is a system that allows you to take college liberal arts subjects at high school. It is almost a compulsory course for students who want to go on to top American universities, and there are many international schools in Japan that offer AP. There are basically no restrictions on subject selection in AP, so you can freely select subjects as long as the schedule at the school you attend fits. Taking more AP courses also expands your options for colleges and universities you can apply to.

AP scores (1-5) are determined by a single final exam. Since there is no midterm exam, it is important to prepare for the exam at an early stage. At Exis, we regularly offer AP practice exams and mock exams, focusing on subjects in which students have difficulty. We cover a wide range of AP subjects in the sciences and humanities, so students can prepare for them with confidence.

Balancing AP classes and school grades (GPA)

AP is also a part of high school coursework and it will affect the student's GPA. For this reason, maintaining a high GPA and AP scores is very important. We will do our best to instruct you with the goal of both a high GPA and a high score on AP exams so that neither element is neglected.

At EGCIS, students are guided by current college students who have achieved high scores on the AP. The students can ask tutors directly about various topics related to the AP, such as study methods, test preparation, and course registration counseling. In addition, by working together in the early stages of the program, we can create a schedule and study method suited to the student's needs and study in a more effective way. We also provide academic and transfer counseling for high schools, as there are many high schools in Japan that accept AP.

A-LEVEL

What is A-LEVEL?

A-Level is an international university entrance qualification offered by Cambridge International, an educational institution run by the University of Cambridge, a prestigious British university. The minimum number of subjects required for university at A-Level is three, allowing students to choose the subjects that best suit them. The A-Level is recognized by many prestigious universities and is an international qualification, making it advantageous not only for university entrance examinations, but also for employment opportunities.

Course selection counseling

The most important feature of A-Level is that the courses are rich and deep because of the small number of subjects. Because of the specialized content, it is a big advantage that you can learn what you will study at university in high school. EGCIS teachers will provide thorough counseling to students so that they can choose subjects for A-Level. By making a firm choice of subjects, you can avoid regrets in the future and broaden the range of university entrance exams.

Cooperative teaching with other courses

A-Level with deeper content is often linked to many subjects instead of just one. Examples include maths/further maths and physics, maths and economics, biology and psychology. Depending on how you combine subjects, you can look at topics from a variety of disciplines and get a more solid understanding of the subject you are studying. Students will be given in-depth instruction in their chosen field of study, using other subjects as well.

As with any other program, the A-Level final exam is very important. EGCIS provides many A-Level practice questions and past papers to help you prepare using materials that are the closest to the real test as they can be. The most important things to know are the type of problems that you might encounter on the exam. We will do our best to help students to get high marks in the end.
